WAL about the courts in New Zealand.
This work shows the courts if New Zealand.
I have been working on this because it is part of our Reading and Integrated Learning.

Distinction Evidence: Choir
Today I went to school early so I wouldn't be late for Choir. I wasn't late. We did some warm-ups and then we sang some songs from the Christchurch Schools' Music Festival booklet. The songs we sung were Murasame, Mexican Wave, Poi E, Here Comes the Sun/This Little Light of Mine and Ring of Fire. We also sung Adiemus, which is not in the booklet. The Choir was less louder than the last time we practised. We got a notice about the Christchurch Schools' Music Festival which is happening in Week 3 on Wednesday to Friday. Our school's Choir is performing on Friday.

Distinction Evidence: PALs
Today I helped my friend who had his PALs duty. I helped him because he helped me do my Peer Mediation duty. We did skipping. Everyone who joined in got a Pozi. Most students wanted to have a turn on the long rope. There were lots and lots of students who wanted a turn on the long rope, so we had to get two long ropes. After 1:25 there were still some students (not many) who wanted to play with the long ropes (we put away the small ropes). So the other two students on duty did the long ropes. Then I went and played football with my friends for the remaining 5 minutes.

Distinction Evidence: PALs
Today I had my PALs duty. I was on Kauri duty but there were only a couple of Kauri students wanting to play with the skipping ropes, but there were heaps of Kakano students wanting to play with the skipping ropes. So our group and the other group decided to do both Kauri and Kakano duty together. I helped out with the long rope. The most jumps on the long rope was over 50 and it was by a Kakano student. We got some Pozis to give to the students who participated in the activity, but we didn't have enough for all of the students who participated. It was good to see many Kakano students getting involved in activities organised by the PALs.

Maths
Today at school have been doing Maths.
I have done a activity booklet about symmetry.
I have been working on this because we have been learning about it last term and we did it to see if we still know how to solve the questions.
My next step is to complete the rest of the activity booklet.
Here is the pages I have done on the booklet:

Distinction Evidence: Peer Mediation
Today I had my Peer Mediation duty. The other students weren't at school, so I asked one of my friends to help me. So my friend and I went onto the field. There were no conflicts. But there were about 10 students who didn't have a hat on, and they were mainly Year 5/6 students. (In Terms 1 and 4 every student needs to have a hat on their heads, if they don't have a hat they need to stay in the shade.) I talked to them, but they all said that their teacher gave them a 'One Day Grace'. So I decided to go to the other side of the field, where the younger students were playing their games. I couldn't find a single student without their hat off. After I finished my duty I went and played with my friends.

Distinction Evidence: Librarian
Yesterday at lunchtime I had my Librarian duty. I was about 3 minutes late because I didn't get much time to eat my lunch. When I got there I was surprised to see none of the people in my group, even when I reminded them that they had their duty on. One of them eventually (about 7 minutes before my duty was over) came and did his part. He said he was doing his Self Directed Learning (SDL). There wasn't much to do. I only had to scan about 2 or 3 books. I got really bored. Finally it was 1:20. I went outside and played a game with my friends. I enjoyed doing it because the field was closed and there is no fun game other than the game I played.

Koru Games
For Koru Games I played Basketball. The thing I enjoyed was going there and winning some games. Next year I hope that there are less teams so we get more time to play the games. It was fun and I think my team did well. I also hope we get a higher place at Koru Games.

Intergrated Learning
Today at school we learnt the word 'Stereotype'.
The definition of 'Stereotype':
A widely held but fixed and oversimplified image or idea of a particular type of person or thing.
'The baby is wearing pink so it is a girl.' This is a common example of a stereotype.
I have been working on this because our class was learning about positive puberty.
My next step is to be able to think of more examples of a stereotype.

Distinction Evidence: Help Out Around the School
Today was an unusual day. All the Year 8 students had to go to the hall to organise the hall so they could do the 'Quiz Night'. While the Year 8 students were doing that the Year 7 students played 'Capture the Flag' or helped Mr M by doing Gardening. I chose to help Mr M. There were 3 groups doing different things. The thing I did was put tarpaulin in little but heavy crates and used the staple gun to hold the tarpaulin on the crate. The other groups took longer than we did, so we helped them finish their job. It was harder than I thought it would have been, but we eventually got there. If I have the opportunity to do it again, I would be happy to do it.

Distinction Evidence: Librarian
Today I had my Librarian duty. I enjoyed sitting at the front returning, issuing and renewing books for the first time in 2 weeks. I returned my book and got a new one book titled 'Big Nate, Flips Out'. I almost finished the book at 'Silent Reading Time' after lunchtime. I was bored so I started to read a comic book. I had just enough time to finish the book. Today we didn't have many students come in at lunchtime, so it was more quiet and I didn't have much stamping and scanning to do. It felt like a very short time. After it had finished I went out to the field and joined in a game of football. I enjoyed my lunchtime, because I had fun doing Librarian duty.

Distinction Evidence: Peer Mediation
Yesterday I had my Peer Mediation duty. I couldn't do it last week because my school had a 'Teacher's Only Day', so I was glad that I could do it yesterday. I went around the field but I was 'stuck' on the Junior side of the field. I had to help some Kakano students solve a problem that they had. I had to help about 6 students find a solution to their problem. But the same 6 students came up about 3 times. It was hard trying to help them because they kept on coming up to us for help. Then another student (a student that wasn't in the 6 students) said another student kicked her. We couldn't find the student who kicked her so we said to go to a teacher. Peer Mediation would have been better if there were no conflicts.

Assembly
7 September 2015
Distinction Evidence: Being A Role Model For The Students In The Kakano Team
Today our school had an whole school assembly. Our class chose a goal, and the goal was to not talk while we get there and wait outside until we are allowed to go in. I was being a role model by not talking to the students beside me, clapping at the appropriate time and standing up silently (for He Honore and the National Anthem). I also held the doors for the students, teachers and quests/visitors. I had to wait a very long time for the last class to come in. I got my CARE Bronze Certificate today. Today's assembly was longer than usual, and it had items that we wouldn't normally do and took away some items we usually do. The assembly was great and I think our class should have gotten a score of 9.99 out of 10.

Distinction Evidence: Choir
Today I had to be at school by 8:45, so I wouldn't be late. I was 5 minutes early and I wasn't late. We only did a few warm-ups and did heaps of songs. Today we only did Here Comes the Sun/This Little Light of Mine, Mexican Wave and Ring of Fire. It was quite annoying because some students were talking when Miss H was singing to let us know how it goes. There was a part in Ring of Fire where it went very high and everyone struggled. I only struggled a little bit. We started to sing a new song, but I can't remember the name of the song.

Distinction Evidence: PALs
Today I had my PALs duty. I went out slightly early, I was on Kakano duty. The field was closed, so we decided to play Octopus. It was good, except that some students didn't play by the rules and then there was no 'seaweed'. About 10% of the students were playing by the rules. We had to finish early because 90% weren't playing by the rules. So the 10% of students missed out, and had to play a game on their own. It was very disappointing seeing the students break the rules. I just wish I had some Pozi's to give out to the 10% who did follow the rules. I hope that next time the students will follow the rules, and listen to the PALs.

Distinction Evidence: Choir
Today I had Choir on. I thought I was going to be a bit late. But I wasn't. There were other students who were late. Today we did some warm-up exercises to get our vocal chords working. Today we sang Murasame, The Long White Sails and May There Always Be Sunshine. We trilled a part of Murasame. Miss H and Mr M were happy with our singing (because they had a smile on their face's). When we went back to class we did SDL or if we had finished SDL we did some Maths. I enjoy Choir because we will perform along with about 100 other schools.

Today I had my Librarian duty. I was slightly late because I had to return my Winter Sport uniform. I was the only person on duty. The others were playing football, away at Canterbury Winter Tournament or on holiday. I helped Mrs Ward by scanning the books that are going to be on for 'Reserve Only'. While I was waiting I read a book that was titled 'Diary of a Basketball Hero'. The book was about a boy named Marcus who didn't like playing sports, but he eventually enjoys playing Basketball. I also reserved a book. After I had finished I played football with my friends.
