Excellence Can Do 2

1 August 2016
Excellence Evidence for: Student Leader
Today we had a leadership meeting. We talked about who was going to do the flags this term. Then we got with our buddy and we talked about how our action plans were going so far. Sam and I said that we couldn't do much because we are running the event at the end of Term 4. The meeting was short. I showed Community by contributing to the discussions and I showed leadership by contributing to the whole group about what we talked about in our pairs.

Excellence Can Do 1

5 July 2016
Excellence Evidence for: Student Leader
Yesterday I had a leaders' meeting. We talked about what we did in the first half of the year. Then we talked about how well we did the things we did. We were good and not so good things that happened this year, but most were good. I talked about doing the flags and that the door to the room where the flags were kept (the Radio Station) was locked most of the times I went there. I showed Community by putting forward my ideas and collaborating to the discussion. I showed leadership by letting the teacher know that I couldn't do the flags because the door was locked.

Excellence Evidence for: Being a good role model for the students in the Kakano Team
Yesterday I helped out at the Kakano Cross Country. The Kakano students were trying really hard. I was giving Pozis to the students who did well and those who didn't do so well but tried hard. I showed Community by giving Pozis to students from different houses. I showed leadership by letting the Kakano students know where to go and I also told some of the other students which way to point so that the Kakano students knew where to run. The first one or two (I don't exactly know how many) races didn't go well because the students ran a different course instead of the course that they should of run. I enjoyed giving out Pozis.

Merit Can Do 10

Merit Evidence for: Librarian
Today I had my Librarian duty. One person didn't come, so it was just two people doing the job. I stapled the two (or more) pieces of paper together and highlighted the ones that were overdue from February. I returned my book that I had completed as well. I enjoyed doing this because I have something to do on Thursday lunchtimes, but it doesn't take up the whole of lunchtime so I can play with my friends. I showed the learner quality of Connect, because we worked in a different place from where we usually work.

Merit Evidence for: Being a good role model for the students in the Kakano Team
Today I was at Garden to Table from 11:30 to 12:40. I was in the cooking group. We cooked silverbeet and pumpkin fritters. I cut the silverbeet and cooked the fritters in the electric frypan. We worked with some of the Year 1 students. I enjoyed cooking. We went to Room 2 to serve the food to them. I also got to have some of the fritters we cooked. I showed Self Awareness because some of the students were walking around the room and we had to look after the students, so that they are safe.

My class had no overdue library books. I showed Collaboration because I had to work with two other students. I enjoyed doing this job.

Merit Evidence for: At Technology and on the Bus
Yesterday the Year 7 and 8 students went to Lincoln Primary School to do Technology. I talked to the person next to me on the bus. When we got there, I did Hard Materials. I'm making a clock and I was sanding for most of the day. I also used the poker burner to burn something onto my clock. I showed Resilience because the sanding has taken a long time.

Merit Evidence for: Kauri Team Events
Last Thursday (12th of May) the Kauri Team walked to Halswell Domain for our Cross Country. When we got there we walked around the track so we knew where we had to run. The Year 7 and 8 students had their race first. We had to run 3km I ran the whole 3km without walking. I came 7th and I got a bleeding nose on my 2nd lap around the track. After my race I had to organise a game for the Year 6 students. I showed Resilience because I didn't stop running even though I had a bleeding nose.

Tomorrow the Kauri team have the Cross Country. The house captains are organising some games for the other students to play when their race is not on. I am organising a game of Dodgeball. I will need to show the learner quality of resilience because the weather may not be good for a game of Dodgeball.

Merit Can Do 6

7 April 2016
Merit Evidence for: Student Leader
Today we talked about priorities about our life at and not at school.
We did an activity about it.

School Work:
A teacher or an expert can help me with this.
My responsibility is usually my highest priority during school time.
I am trying to complete it, that is the main objective.

Leadership Work:
Other house captains, Mr Brown and Mr Ladbrook can help me with this.
Everyday before and after school.
Putting up and down the flags EVERYDAY.

Outside of School Work:
Parents, my computer, other people in life can help me.
When I’m not at school.

Everything out of school.

These are my priorities at and not at school.
I showed the learner quality of Connect, because I had to connect my ideas to the topic.

Merit Evidence for: Librarian
Yesterday I had my librarian duty on. I had to print out the sheets and do the things we need to do every week. I had to highlight the ones on the sheet that were overdue from February 2015. There were also books that were overdue from last year. I had to show the learner quality of Collaboration because I had to talk to my friends to find out who needed to do what. I enjoyed it and I can't wait until next week.

Merit Can Do 3

18 March 2016
Merit Evidence for: Librarian
Yesterday I had my Librarian duty. I printed the sheets with the overdue books on them and then I got a yellow card and stapled them together. This week we had to highlight the books that were overdue from February or from 2014/2015. I had to do this for every class. I showed the Learner Quality of Collaboration because my friends and I had to do the same task using teamwork. I enjoyed it and I think we did it really fast because we have done this for about four weeks.

Merit Must Do 2

15 March 2016
Merit Evidence for: At Technology and on the Bus
Today we had Technology. I'm in design and in the last few weeks we have been learning about the design process. We have also learnt about prototypes and the final product being 'fit for purpose' which means it does what it's supposed to do. Dylan, Scott and I have been making an app. We have tested it and it works really well. We couldn't upload the app onto the Play Store yet. On the bus it was better than last week. It was quiet and all the people were sitting on their seats. I had to show the learner quality of  Collaborate because I had to work with my group.

Merit Can Do 2

14 March 2016
Merit Evidence for: Student Leader
Today I had my weekly leaders meeting. We talked about a lot of stuff. The house captains started making a slideshow for the values lessons we do every fortnight. The house captains need to make one about the library, cloakrooms, toilets and one about eating. I got the eating one. We haven't finished our slideshow. The teacher said we used to do it of a sheet, which wasn't really that interesting, so they asked us to do the last ones so they want to learn more and remember how to show the CARE values in those areas. We need to add photos or pictures and what to show in those areas. I showed Resilience because it wasn't the easiest or the best thing I could do.

At 2:30 Dylan and I had to go back to the Library because Mrs Ward couldn't be there to do her work, so we returned the books then issue the books for the students in Room 2.
It was a hot day and it was hard working in the heat.

Playing Games With Little Kids

Today the Year 8s taught the little kids how to play games.
I worked with Jack W and we taught the little kids how to play octopus.
We had to introduce ourselves to the little kids and ask what their names are.
Then we explained the rules to them and played the game.
We were supposed to do a short reflection, but we couldn't because we didn't have enough time to.
Next time we would play the game on grass, because a little kid fell over and hurt his knee.

Here is a photo of another game:

Leadership in the Food Forest

WALT show leadership in the Food Forest.
Yesterday we went into our school Food Forest because we needed to pick the seeds from the flowers.
We made envelopes out of paper, so we could put the seeds into them.
We also chopped down the plants and made a chicken tractor.
The trailer was full so I went on it and squished the plants together to make more space.

If I did it again, I would wear pants not shorts because my leg got itchy.
I think we made a lot of progress.

I showed leadership by helping out other people.
I also showed leadership by coming up with the idea to squish the plants on the trailer together.

Here is a photo of our Food Forest.

This is a photo of the chicken tractor.

22 February 2016
Merit Evidence for: Kauri Team Events
Last Friday, Oaklands School went to Jellie Park for our Swimming Sports Event.
The house captains organised the house activities for the Kauri students.
I helped organise Splash. It is the game where the students try make the biggest splash.
I had to show Resilience when the younger students didn't listen during the house activities.
It was a fun event to be part of and it was a great opportunity to show leadership.
